The following report was written by a, Melrose homeowner and POA Board member. All names have been removed from this report to keep them confidential. This is to let you know that the board members are working diligently with the owners of Melrose, the Inn, and the Club to get everything up and running as quickly as possible for all homeowners, club members and guests. John Doe   and I met with several other board members and island business executives, and three or four others from Pelorus Group (The current owners of the Daufuskie Island Resort) for about an hour on Saturday afternoon. I asked them to tell us about their progress, plans, and schedules with information that we could pass on to other property owners. The following are my notes.   ·        There will be a soft opening of the Beach Club on Memorial Day weekend. Dear Front Porch Readers, Lots of news and announcements this week - please note: DI Turtle Team The first Loggerhead sea turtle nest on Daufuskie Island for the 2012 nesting season was laid May 5th. "Lights Out - Dusk To Dawn - May 1 Thru October 31" The commercial shrimp season in state waters officially began May 7th. There is the potential for a faulty or illegal TED (turtle excluder device) that will drown a sea turtle if caught in the net, especially the larger turtles. Please report any Strandings (dead or injured sea turtles ) to Holley Miles 843 540-7328 or Tammy Helmuth 843 247-5941. No unauthorized vehicles are allowed on Beaufort County beaches. On Monday, April 30th there will be a public hearing for property owners to voice their objections to a major increase in water and sewer rates. This hearing will be held at the Haig Point Clubhouse at 6:00 PM and is open to all Daufuskie property owners and stake holders. Please make every effort to attend. The Daufuskie Island Utility Company is seeking a rate increase of over 100%. ************************** 2012 Phone books are available at the DI Firehouse.
