From the DI Front Porch: The holiday issue of the Front Porch has traditionally been our “Thankfulness Issue” In truth, what this issue is about more than anything else is getting to know our neighbors and strengthening community bonds. Coffee and the Bible will start at 9:00AM at the Mary Fields School. Following the Easter Service, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt and Pot-Luck fellowship meal at the Mary Fields School. The Hutton family would like to invite everyone to a Celebration of Life to be held at Marshside Mama’s on Sunday, November 30, at 1:00PM. The Huttons have asked that you bring stories and photos of Chris to share. Bring your own libations. The Votes Are In--Meet Your New Daufuskie Island Council

Saturday was voting day on Daufuskie Island. It was a warm 60 degree sunny day and everyone takes a golf cart ride to vote. With 233 votes cast, below are the winners of the Council election: Patrick Ford 149 votes Catherine Tillman 124 votes Chuck Hunter 111 votes David Helmuth 108 votes The top three elected vote getters will serve for three years. The fourth highest vote recipient will serve for two years. Thanks to Chris Hutton, Pat Allison and Maree Hanson for their help in witnessing and tabulating votes.

Valentine's Day is Always Fun on Daufuskie Island

I remember many Valentine's Days or evenings I should say at Marshside Mama's on Daufuskie Island. It really is a very fun place to be, even in February. We have had very warm weather in the south for January and February consider booking your Valentine's Day Dinner or just a weekendend getaway this month to Daufuskie Island. Don't forget to vote! The DI Council will hold its yearly election on February 11, 2012 at the Mary Field School starting at 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The following candidates are on the ballot: John Coulter, David Helmuth, Chuck Hunter, Kaaren Montgomery, Terri Painter, John Schartner, Jodi Smith, Catherine Tillman. f you are unable to attend the day of the vote, proxy ballots can be submitted to Mr. Chris Hutton at P.O.
