Work of Fiction by Darrell King mentions Daufuskie Island

Darrell King if D.C is a fiction writer who uses the names of real places to create a work of soap opera style "Ghetto" fiction. He as a writer is the equivalent of Tupac Shakur as a rapper. I am rather iritated that Darrell writes about Fripp Island being Georgia (we all know that's not true) and Daufuskie Island being the hide out for druglords and seedy types. The people that live on Daufuskie Island are some of the nicest most genuine people that I have ever met. You're car dies they stop to help, your cart dies they stop to help, everyone is very neighborly. Darrell should do more research on his next novel and maybe actually visit to get inspiration some of the real places that he mentions. Or he could be like the talented southern writer Pat Conroy who makes up the name "Yamacraw" Island in his famous book the "The Water is Wide", but maybe that is just too creative for Mr. King. I have copied tha actual pages of his book available on

New Years 2010 on Daufuskie Island

It's 28 degrees and the temp is dropping on Daufuskie Island. I have never been here when it is this cold.....Our truck broke down and all five of us pile in the open air golf cart burrrrrr.....Saturday morning the sun is out and we walk the beach at Sandy Lane towards Bloody Point and collect sand dollars, lots and lots of sanddollars. We are determined to have fun regardless of the weather. One of our friends wants to bring his helicopter down to the island from Atlanta but we realize there is no helipad. Perhaps Montauk will install one for all the impatient crazies who don't like the five hour drive down to the beach from Atlanta. We had a fantastic dinner at Marshside Mama's thanks to owner Beth who cooked it herself. I want to make sure that I tell her she is a fantastic chef. The food is always consistently good and I highly recommend a visit to Mama's.

Happy New Year to Everyone on Daufuskie Island

Bankruptcy judge approves sale of Daufuskie Island resort By JOSH McCANN jmccann@islandpacket.com A bankruptcy court judge approved the sale of substantially all assets of the bankrupt Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa to a North Carolina company for $49.5 million at a hearing Wednesday in Beaufort. Montauk Resorts' offer was the highest to emerge after a trustee in charge of the estate marketed the property for months. Judge John E. Waites said he feared that if he did not approve Montauk's offer, the resort might be broken up and sold piecemeal, resulting in little benefit to creditors or the community of the sparsely developed, 5,000-acre island that is accessible only by boat. "Frankly, this is what the case is about: Finding some value," Waites said. "This sale had to be seriously considered and will be approved today." The resort includes an inn, two golf courses, tennis courts, several restaurants, an equestrian center and entitlemen

Finally the sale of Melrose is about to come to fruition

Excitement is in the air for the purchase of the Daufuskie Island Resort and Inn to close to a new group of investors. The closeing date is somewhere around Thanksgiving so hopefully we can all be thankful to have a nice cozy inn, great restaurants, clean beaches, nice golf courses and places to have fun with our friends and family.

Although Hilton Head Island is largely thought of as a playground for the rich or a great area for water activities like boating, fishing and all that is considered "Low Country" in Southern lifestyle, it also possesses a history of ancients, Indians and p

Brief Resort Update

I am sorry that I haven't updated you all in awhile. Please know that the Bloody Point Pool is not open and not in good shape at all it has completely fallen into disrepair. There have been some "potential buyers" of the resort but nothing is official yet. The same goes for the restaurants. Bloody Point Golf Course the beautiful Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed course has been closed for play since January. I've been getting some emails from blog readers about events, weddings and stays on the island. If anyone has an event facility and catering company please drop me an email so that I can create a Daufuskie Vending List for my readers. Please take a look at the Front Porch News link for more frequent updates on events and happenings around the island.
